Family History

George Moss Pepper was born on 22nd March 1885 at Nottingham and was the son of George a farm labourer and Rebecca Pepper née Moss of Straws Lane, East Bridgford. His father George was born in 1852 at East Bridgford and his mother Rebecca Moss was born in 1857 at Cropwell Butler, they were married in 1880 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham registration district, they went on to have 5 children sadly two died in infancy or ealy childhood, their children were William b1880, Mary Elizabeth b1882, John James b1884, George Moss b1885 and Arthur b1887, all were born at East Bridgford. In the 1911 census the family are living at East Bridgford and are shown as George 59 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Rebecca 54 yrs and their son George Moss 26 yrs a farm labourer.

Military History

Private George Moss Pepper enlisted at Newark, he served with the 1/4th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 15th September 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
